Dogwood Business Meeting Notes - 09/18/2021
Meeting called to order on 9/18/2021 at 10:34, Ed Herbert presiding.
Ed welcomed all club members, new and old, and provided his notes and impressions of the FMCA International Convention back in July 2021 in Gillette, Wy. Points made were:
· Ed was one of 250+ delegates, seated by areas in the Gillette CAM-PLEX auditorium. Meeting was a two-day event, and was run very successfully
· Differences in the Candidates of office were in their backgrounds; all candidates supported three basic tenants:
o Maintain/Increase membership
o Keep the FMCA Assist Program regardless of cost
o Keep FMCA "in the black" financially
· Ed explained that he polled the Dogwood Club back in the Spring for recommendations as to who to vote for in the national elections. Based on information received from the Club, he voted "For" John Reynolds, Gary Milner, and Susan Balough. Of the candidates for Treasurer, the club was divided equally between Wright and Smith. Based on his assessment of the two, Ed voted for Smith.
· Ed and Jean set up a Dogwood Table at the Chapter Fair and handed out many Dogwood Flyers.
Ed pointed out that there were a lot of Dogwood Host pins, from 2006 all the way to 2019 that had never been picked up by club members and encouraged the group to stop by afterwards and take any pins that were applicable to their service.
Committee/Chair Reports
VP of Membership and Treasurer - Pat Allen reported that we have $3183.70 in the account not counting the $100 gift received yesterday from FMCA for our 25th Anniversary. She has also sent donations out in memory of Amy Cummings and Donna Foore.
VP of Communications - Dave Meyer reported that he has made many updates to the blog site and the Dogwood Directory. He encouraged club members to continue sending him stories, photos, videos, etc. to post for us to read. As for the Blog site, he has updated the areas of T-Shirt Sales, mirror covers and garden flags.
VP of Rallies - Henry Kuiken reiterated that the GEAR event was indeed cancelled, and that our next rally would be in November, 11/5-11/7, for the Urbanna Oyster Festival at Ed Fisher's shop. Berkley Alexander pointed out that there was only room for 10 rigs, so get your reservation in ASAP. Our December Christmas Rally was scheduled for 12/2-12/5 here at Americamps. As an aside, reservations for next year's Christmas Rally (2022) were made by the Rally Chair at the end of our meeting.
Care Person Report - Patty Kuiken reported out about the cards and donations (memorial gifts) proved by the Club since January 2021. She requested that any time a member gets news about another member's health or personal loss, that she (Patty) be contacted so that we can send out the cards and appropriate memorial gift in a timely manner. And she thanked all the club for keeping her posted, especially about those former members that have dropped out of the club over the years.
National Director - Ed Fisher reported that the next national meeting will be in Lincoln, NB in August (8/24-8/27).
Gourmands - Wilt Greenwood reported that the Gourmands Meeting scheduled for GEAR was cancelled. He spoke about how Max Hicks had started the Gourmands as a Dogwood group, but as they went to more rallies, the group grew considerably and is now its own club.
Old Business
· Jim Buelow raised the issue of how to fund the rally room costs since most campgrounds are now charging for the use of their rally rooms, where in the past, this usage was free. He stated that it could either be part of the rally costs to the participants, or it could be a separate item chargeable back to the club as a miscellaneous expense by the rally host. Considerable discussion ensued regarding limits to the costs of a room, and the consensus was that the Rally Host be responsible for ensuring the cost would be reasonable. A motion was made by Fairleigh Schoolar to include the room rental fee into the rally fee effective immediately. Clarence Seamster seconded the motion; vote was taken, and the motion passed.
New Business
· None
Connie Tilman stated that the Cornhole Tournament would start at 2:00 pm, and that Happy Hour at 5pm. After Dinner, there would be a "Yankee Swap" and door prizes.
The meeting adjourned 11:44.
Thank You, Karen Alexander, for filling in and recording the meeting minutes.
Jean Herbert, Secretary
