President’s Message – May/Jun 2024

Ed Herbert

Hello Dogwood! Hello new members!

Summer travel is in full swing and I am wishing “Safe Travels” for everyone on the road this summer. As you are aware, the International Rally is coming up in August in Redmond, Oregon. While that is a pretty long drive, a cross-country trip is still on our bucket list in the next year or two. Jean and I have been to Gillette twice now and I can say it is a beautiful trip, especially after you cross the Mississippi. Our National Director and his Alternate can’t make this trip, nor I, but fortunately, Dogwood has a candidate to represent us in Redmond. Mr. Eric Britz will be our representative at the FMCA Business Meeting – there are business changes to be made, budgets to be approved, etc. All in line with running a large company. Now a last-minute call: If you are going to Redmond, please let Jim Buelow and Ed Fisher know - by email is fine. And I encourage anyone who just happens to be out there at the time to attend the business meeting – it is a real eye-opener!

Jean and I are preparing for the big trip to Minnesota and then to Maine. I am getting new tires for my rig and putting a new microwave in the RV. (We blew out the microwave in Fletcher. Hmmmm) So we are traveling first to Minnesota, and I’ll take five days for this – drive two days, rest one day, drive two more days and arrive. On our trip to Fletcher last month, I discovered that I really don’t like to drive more than two or three days at a stretch, so we added a day of rest into the journey. After a week in Minnesota, we head east again to join up with the club in Boothbay, Maine. That will be a six-day run for us. Three days driving, one day rest, two more drive days and arrive. The planned stopover will be Niagara Falls. Wish us luck!

Some travel stories I have heard recently; Dale and Robi Robison are headed west, and Nanette & Dave Meyer just got home after chasing tornadoes across Oklahoma. Now, there’s a brave couple.... Patty & Henry Kuiken have been back and forth to Florida lately setting up their new fifth wheel on their property down there. So, I am looking forward to new stories out there from our club travelers – tell us what you’ve been up to!

Stay safe, have fun, and send us a postcard!

Ed & Jean
