Max Hicks Passing August 2021
The Dogwood Family was recently made aware of the passing of Max Hicks. Max passed away on September 28, 2020, at the age of 84. but we in Dogwood were not aware of it until now.
Max and wife Barbara were Charter and longtime members of Dogwood, and also the Monaco Group and the Eastern Gourmands, with which Max was one of the founders. Due to health issues, Max and Barbara dropped out of Dogwood several years ago but continued to attend Urbanna rallies for some time.
Over the many years the Hicks were Dogwood members, they were deeply involved in our chapter, hosting many rallies and always there to offer a helping hand. And Max loved to sit around with the guys and tell stories.
And for those who have been around Dogwood for a while, you can’t help but remember Max as the Dogwood Chief Bacon Chef. In years past it was standard procedure for the guys to gather around the coffee pot early on Saturday morning, telling stories, but most importantly, to cook loads of bacon for breakfast. And Max was always there. He loved to cook bacon and you didn’t dare make any comments about his cooking process, get in his way, or try to grab a piece of bacon. You would definitely get a chewing out. Thank you for those great memories Max, and for the Hicks’ contributions to Dogwood and FMCA.
Connie Tilman, along with Susan Buelow, and there may be others, recently spoke with Barbara Hicks. She is getting along alright and has the help and support of their son and family. Her contact information follows if you would like to reach out to her: Barbara Hicks, 15 Warren Drive, Portsmouth, VA 23701, 757 488-5515.
A card from Dogwood was sent to the Hicks family, and you can find Max’s obituary at Sturtevantfuneralhome.com.
Please keep the Hicks family in your thoughts and prayers.
Regards,
Jim Buelow
