VP Rallies Update – May/Jun 2021

We had a very successful Rally at the Natural Bridge KOA!
A good time was had by all!  We began Thursday evening at the Dogwood Cafe a with heavy hors d'oeuvres potluck!  Boy, the Dogwood folks know how to throw a potluck!  Great food, excellent company and a lot of laughs.

Friday was a beautiful day with a trip to the Lavender fields, gorgeous!  The Kuiken's grandkids really enjoyed the donkeys there!  We all met up at the Pink Cadillac for a fun lunch!

The Dogwood Cafe had plenty of tables and chairs for everyone and was covered with pop up canopies as a 'sun protector' and was set up behind the Herbert's rig.  Just as dinner was being served, we had a downpour, that would not let up!  The canopies did help protect us!  The 'Umbrella Boys' aka; Henry Kuiken and Ed Herbert escorted patrons to the buffet table next to the Kuiken's rig and back to the fine dining of the Dogwood Cafe. We had a Mexican meal, and a lot of laughs!  And it continued to pour!

Woke up Saturday morning to a beautiful, clear, sunny day!  Folks went to the Safariland and fed the animals; it was so much fun!  The Kuiken's grandkids really enjoyed it!  Had a wonderful Italian meal that night, followed by some going to the races and some roasting marshmallows for s’mores by the Meyer's campfire!

Dogwood Cafe was rearranged to meet the changing environmental conditions again.  Although the sky looked threatening it, it was a lovely day!  We enjoyed a nice continental breakfast before departing.

Looking forward to the next Rally at North Landing Beach.  Check the blog for details and get your RSVP in!

September 30-October 2 GEAR Rally in Lewisburg WV.  Hosted by the Tilmans, Buelows and volunteers.

Dogwood's Chapter Gathering at GEAR will be held on Saturday, October 2 at 5 pm.  This gathering is in addition to the 25th anniversary reception on September 30. This get together is always held at GEAR rallies.  It's a time to socialize with each other, to invite potential new members to meet us, and of course, to eat!  We also have a special purpose this year. The Bluegrass Heritage band, started by our member we recently lost, Donald Warthan, is the evening's entertainment.  They were so well received several years ago that they have been invited back for a repeat performance.  As we did the last time they performed, we are inviting them to this chapter get together to eat with us.  Plan on bringing a large heavy hors d'oeuvre and joining the fun.  Call me if you have questions about what to bring. Connie Tilman 804 513-7274.   We will again have use of the Blue Ribbon building, starting at 4:30 for set up.  Our chapter thanks Nancy Wolfe for scheduling the roomy Blue Ribbon building for our GEAR events.

November 4-7 Urbanna Oyster Festival.  Hosted by the Alexanders.

December 2-5 Dogwood Christmas Rally at Americamps.  Hosted by the Herberts, Kuikens and Meyers.

And a reminder --- Jim Buelow received this email from Phyllis Britz (Penn Coachmen) inviting Dogwood to their rally.  The Penn group are great to gather with and a lot of fun. And POCONO will be beautiful in October. Thank you, Phyllis, for including us.

Good evening all,

It's been awhile since I sent out the save the date notice for the Poconos Raceway Rally.  Information on the Rally scheduled for October can be found on the Penn Coachmen website October Rally (penncoachmen.org).

The rally is scheduled for Oct 15-17 with "early bird" arrivals on 13 & 14 so there is time for seeing the local sights.  There are 100+ sites for this rally with FHUs. All are back in sites and are very level. Special rate for this rally of $40/night. Folks need to call the Raceway and make their own reservations and need to identify themselves as being part of the Penn Coachmen group.  I've invited all the northern region chapters plus the Dogwood and Niagara Frontier Chapters to join in the fun.   Friday evening's welcome meal is being sponsored by the Poconos Mountain Visitor's Bureau. Updated information will be put on the Penn Coachmen website and I'm happy to answer any questions.

Safe travels,

Phyllis
